All Virginians orient to the James River – America’s Founding River. From the headwaters of the Cowpasture and Jackson Rivers in Iron Gate to the urban whitewater at the Falls of Richmond and on to the tidal river that feeds the Chesapeake Bay, the James River is Central Virginia’s centerpiece and focal point.

On July 9, 2011, volunteers will take part in the fourth Annual James River Run-Off Run-Down as a benefit for the James River Association, a Richmond-based non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to safeguard the James River from the headwaters to the Bay.

The idea of the Run-Down is simple – river enthusiasts from across the Commonwealth will paddle, boat, tube, sail or otherwise cover small sections of the James River such that, taken in concert, the entire length of the James River – all 340 miles – will be traversed in one day. As part of their Run-down, River Runners may observe water quality, view wildlife, and simply enjoy the river. Moreover, friends and family can show support for the JRA and individual Runners by pledging support.

RORD 2010

The third annual James River Run-Off Run-Down was a great event. The event raised over $16,000 with 110 participants who collectively covered over 1600 miles! The Wilton Company was our Title Sponsor for the second year in a row.

RORD 2009

The second annual James River Run-off Run-down was a huge success; individuals collectively traversed the entire 340 miles of the River and raised over $27,000 for the James River Association! Last year’s participation surpassed the previous year’s, with a record of 114 participants and 26 teams out on the River. The Wilton Company was our Title Sponsor.

RORD 2008

The first James River Run-off Run-down was the start of a wonderful tradition! Our River Runners hit the James River -- swimming, tubing, boating and floating -- and raised over $21,000 for the James River Association! Participation for a first-time event was inspiring -- with 94 participants and 29 teams out on the River.
