1. How can I participate in the Run-Off Run-Down?Participating in the Run-Off Run-Down is very simple. Navigate to the home page and click on "Register" and select the Run-Off Run-Down, or click here. The sign-up process requires you to register with a user name and password to protect your privacy. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process. You will need to design your Run-Down by identifying a start and end point of your Run-Down and select your mode of transportation on the River. 2. What is the JRA Privacy Policy? Will you sell or disclose personal information?JRA's Privacy Policy may be viewed here. By accepting the electronic waiver you grant the James River Association the unconditional right to use your or your child's name, voice, and photographic likeness in connection with any audio/video production, articles, website materials or press releases, but not as an endorsement. If you do NOT want your or your child's name, voice, and photographic likeness used in connection with any audio/video production, articles, website materials or press releases, please contact JRA. 3. Is the checkout system secure?Yes. The JRA has partnered with Kintera to ensure thatevery effort is made to protect your information. We use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information, passwords, and personal information travel securely over the Internet. We have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so that your data is securely stored. You are welcome to sign up over the phone if you prefer. Where can I put in or take out on the River?Research your put-in and take-out locations by viewing the Run-Off Run-Down River Map.On this page you can zoom and pan to find specific locations and directions to the sites. More information about the access and river sections that interest you are available by clicking on the push pins or individual river sections. Note that some sections are quite long and require advanced boating skills. Be sure to design your Rundown consistant with your skill level. Some access points are private, so be sure to obtain necessary permission to use these properties. The sections also can be viewed in a list format under the Run-Off Run-Down River Section page. 6. What if I don't want to use the put-in and take-out locations indicated on your map?You may participate in the Run-Off Run-Down even if you elect to use a beginning and ending point that do not correlate to the map. For purposes of calculating mileage and coverage of the river, please select a start and end point that most closely approximates your planned trip. 7. Can friends and family make a donation to a River Runner by going through the main website?Yes. On the home page of the website, friends and family can sponsor a River Runner by clicking on the "Donate" button. Under the Run-Off Run-Down category, click the sponsor a river runner link, or click here. The next page will ask for the name of the River Runner, and you will be directed to the Runnner's personalized pledge page. 8. What is the source of your data on the map?The information on the launch sites and river sections was obtained from several public sources. These include, but are not limited to the following:
The JRA assumes no liability for the accuracy of the data and has made its best effort to provide pertinent information that was available at the time of publication. Please confirm all information prior to July 9 to ensure your safety and legal ingress/egress from the river. 9. How does the James River Association utilize the contributions?To get more information on how James River Association uses contributions, please email runoffrundown@jrava.org. You can also visit our website at www.jamesriverassociation.org or call us at (804) 788-8811 for more information. 10. Why is the "Sponsor a River Runner" search not finding a River Runner that I know has registered?You must type in the first name or last name of the River Runner exactly how it is spelled. It is not case sensitive. If you have a problem locating a River Runner that you are sure has registered, please contact us by visiting the Web Developer's customer support site and they will contact you to help. Alternatively, you can call JRA at 804-788-8811 or at runoffrundown@jrava.org 11. Are any of the River access points private?Yes. Some of the locations marked by push pins on the Map are private. Obtain the necessary permission prior to using these locations for launching. For further information, please contact the JRA staff by calling 804-788-8811. 12. Where can I find out if the river is at a safe level?The river level data can be obtained at the USGS website for your specific location. See the links page. 13. I don't have a boat but I want to participate. Can the JRA help me?Yes. Although the JRA cannot provide equipment, a list of resources is available on the links page. You are encouraged to contact companies directly to inquire about rentals or loans of canoes, kayaks, inner tubes or boats. JRA does not attest to the quality or suitability of these outfits and is not affiliated with them in any way. For further information, direct questions to the JRA at 804-788-8811. 14. Why are motorized boats allowed to participate?The James River is a treasured resource shared by all. Consequently, the responsibility for its protection is vested in all users of the river. It is the belief of the JRA that anyone who enjoys and benefits from the health of the river should be invited to celebrate in this event. Accordingly, jon boats, dead rises, water skiers and freighters are equally invested in the protection of the river. 15. Will you issue refunds?Except under exceptional circumstances, refunds will not be issued. When a sponsor submits a donation, the credit card is immediately run to reflect the payment. JRA cannot be held accountable for participants who fail to participate in the event for any reason. Furthermore, if the event is postponed due to unforeseeable conditions on the river or otherwise, no contributions will be reimbursed. If there has been an error in the amount charged, JRA will gladly refund any amount charged erroneously. Please let JRA know as soon as possible in this case.

| Splash and Dash FAQ | |
1. Where will the James River Splash and Dash be located?The James River Splash and Dash race will start near Belle Isle parking lot on Tredegar Street in Richmond, VA. There will be event signs posted. View a Google map of the area. Sign-in for the race will be from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. the day of the race. 2. Can I register for the race the day of the event?Please register prior to the event through the event website, to save time at sign-in the day of the event. Registering before the event also gives you time to raise money to protect the river, and you also get cool stuff. 3. Can I register for both the James River Splash and Dash and the Run-Off Run-Down?Yes, you can register for both events. Just remember to allow yourself enough time to get to the sign-in for the Splash and Dash at 4:00 p.m. 4. I am interested in volunteering for the Splash and Dash. What do I need to do?Please fill out the volunteer form. Someone will contact you about job assignments and times volunteers are needed. 5. Can I participate and volunteer for the James River Splash and Dash?Due to the time schedule of the event, we request that only non-participants volunteer. 6. Where can I find parking?There is street parking available on a first-come first served basis. Event parking will also be available at 500 Spring Street ((the Afton Chemical lot in between Afton Chemical and the Virginia Housing Development Authority) on a first come, first served basis. 7. Will I need to bring my own tube?No. Tubes will be provided to those that have registered and paid the $30 registration fee. 8. How can I get cool prizes?With all paid registrations, you will get a tube to use for the race and it will also be yours to keep after the event. For those who raise or donate $50 - $99, you will get a tube and an event t-shirt, and for those who raise $100 and up, you will get the tube, the t-shirt, plus an event towel. 9. Can my children participate?Yes. Children 10 and up can participate. All of those under 18 will be REQUIRED to wear a life jacket. 10. Will prizes be awarded?Yes, we will award prizes for the person that raises the most money and prizes for 1st and 2nd place finishers in the wave categories. 11. What will the after party include?The after party will include a band as well as food and drinks (non-alcoholic and beer) sales. We hope that you will plan to stay and join us. 12. Will there be bathrooms available?We will have port-o-lets available, as well as a hand-washing station. 13. On the registration form, what is the "primary photo" used for, and why and I being asked to create a username and password? The James River Splash and Dash is a fundraiser for the James River Association. The username and password creates a personal fundrasing page, that you are able to customize and include a photo to ask friends and family to donate in support of your participation. Fundraising incentives can be found by clicking here. 14. Do I need to supply my own PFD/Life Jacket? To be guaranteed use of PFD/Life Jacket, please bring your own. Life Jackets are required for all participants under the age of 18. |
