Job Announcement for the Position of
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
for the James River Association


JRA seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual to oversee, write and coordinate a wide variety of communications and documents on behalf of the James River Association. This position will report to the Senior Development and Marketing Directors and will become an integrated and highly valued member of the Development and Marketing team. The Communications Coordinator is a newly designed position that, while reporting to Development and Marketing, will become an integrated player across all of JRA’s focus areas. Primary efforts will be directed toward the writing and submission of key foundation, corporate and government grants. Responsibilities will also include progress reports to JRA’s philanthropic supporters as well as timely attention to specific foundation requests. Management of multiple tasks will be extremely important as the Communications Coordinator will also have the opportunity to handle newsletter and website reporting as well as press releases as related to major happenings on the river.

A strong writing and editing background is essential, as is attention to detail and the desire to be a team player. Positive energy and a passion and concern for the environment will create a perfect match.

Specific duties will include:
• Management of grant deadlines for submission and reporting
• Writing and packaging of grants for foundations, corporations, and government
• Grant management and tracking
• Submission and editing of JRA newsletter articles
• Adaptation of JRA news for the website
• Writing press releases and managing appropriate distribution and follow-up


Specific Qualifications
The successful applicant will:
1. Have excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.
2. Have expertise with a wide range of communications practices including writing, editing, web communications, public relations, and public affairs
3. Be able to work independently and to collaborate with team members and consultants.
4. Have project management skills with a demonstrated track record of managing significant communications activities. Must have experience meeting goals amidst competing priorities and tight deadlines.
5. Have a minimum of a BA degree, preferably in a writing related field.
6. Possess strong computer skills including Microsoft word, excel and powerpoint. Graphic design and web design experience a plus.
7. Demonstrate a commitment to environmental and conservation issues, especially as related to the James River.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. JRA offers a comprehensive benefits package and a dynamic and flexible work environment. The position will work out of our new offices in downtown Richmond at 9 South 12th Street.
